The Los Angeles Sparks return home to Crypto.com Arena following a three-game road trip during which they finished with a 1-3 record. The Sparks will face off against familiar Western Conference rival in the Minnesota Lynx, and it appears as if they'll have reinforcements. Neither Lexie Brown nor Layshia Clarendon appeared on the Sparks injury report ahead of the game.
Layshia Clarendon had been out of the lineup following a blow to the head during the Sparks loss to the Dallas Wings back on May 26. They had been in concussion protocol since then. Brown suffered an apparent ankle injury during the Sparks loss to the Phoenix Mercury this past Sunday and was forced to leave the game early.
This is good news for the Sparks as Layshia Clarendon and Lexie Brown had been the team's most capable ball-handlers so far this season. Clarendon has been the team's starting point guard while Brown is the starting shooting guard. The Sparks have had some mixed success though with running Brown at the point.
Brown is in her third season with the Sparks after signing a two-year contract extension back in February. This year, she's appeared in all eight games for the Sparks so far at a little over 26 minutes per game. She's been averaging 8.5 points, 2.6 rebounds. 3.4 assists and 1.1 steals with splits of 31.9 percent shooting from the field, 30 percent shooting from the three-point line and 86.7 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
Clarendon is their second season with the Sparks after re-signing as a free agent in the offseason. This year, they've appeared in five games so far at a little over 19 minutes per game. They've been averaging 5.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.0 steals with splits of 47.4 percent shooting from the field, 60 percent shooting from the three-point line and 83.3 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
As the 2024 WNBA season has progressed, the Sparks have seen strong early development from their prized rookies in Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson. Both players were lottery picks, No. 2 and No. 4 respectively, in the 2024 WNBA Draft. The Sparks currently sport an overall record of 2-6 as they approach this upcoming three-game home-stand beginning with Wednesday's game against the Lynx.
